Rambam Square, the historical heart of Ramat Gan, holds a deep connection to the city's collective memory and identity. Known by long-time residents as "The Valley," the square sits at a natural topographic low between the surrounding hills of Ganey HaPisga, Gan Avraham, and Gan Shaul. As part of Ramat Gan's centennial celebrations, the municipality, led by Mayor Carmel Shama-Hacohen, decided to renew the square to reinforce its central role as both a civic event space and a welcoming everyday public environment. To implement the project, the municipality activated the Ramat Gan Economic Development Corporation Ltd., which launched a design competition. Our studio was selected as the winner.

This project explores the balance between structure and creativity, turning ideas into a solid, functional space. From early concepts to the final build, every detail was carefully considered to create something clear, durable, and adaptable. The result is a foundation that supports growth, collaboration, and long-term impact.

A new performance stage was placed between two preserved buildings—the synagogue and Beit HaEzrach—to form a defined architectural edge and a natural gathering point. The stage's dual orientation allows it to host both large-scale and intimate events. The northern plaza in front of the stage was kept clear of trees and light poles to accommodate large ceremonies. To the south, a smaller plaza supports children's performances, debates, and other community activities. The shaded center of the stage enables use throughout the day, beyond its primary function as an event platform.

North of Beit HaEzrach, a wooden deck was designed for the longstanding tradition of weekly ballroom dancing events held every Tuesday. This area is framed by custom-built benches and shaded by an old flamboyant tree (Delonix regia), beneath which picnic and chess tables were placed. The design preserves and enhances the square's use by the senior population that frequents Beit HaEzrach, while also allowing for new forms of public use.

next to the iconic Bauhaus-style Orda Cinema (which gave the square its nickname), an organic lawn and a circular biological water feature were installed. The site is characterized by a substantial canopy of mature ficus trees and a number of large shrub beds, which have been preserved. Additional flowering trees were introduced at street corners, near crosswalks, and along the edges of the square.
